1909-1979
Armstrong – Services for John W. Whitesell, 69, Armstrong, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Don Sarff officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Whitesell died July 10 at his farm home.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, until noon Friday and at the church prior to services.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Whitesell, he was born Dec. 21, 1909, at Iowa Falls. He attended grade school at Halfa and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1927.

He started farming southwest of Armstrong in 1933, was married to Mary Mason on Jan. 26, 1936, at Iowa Falls and later moved to a farm near Dolliver, where he farmed until moving to the family’s present farm north of Armstrong in 1958.

He served two terms as a director on the Farmer’s Elevator Board, was an ASCS committeeman and also sealed corn.

Mr. Whitesell is survived by his wife, Mary, Armstrong; one son, Douglas Whitesell, Armstrong; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Grace) Paris, Armstrong; and one foster brother, Kenneth Hoyt, Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 12, 1979)
