Rites To Be Sunday for Frank Wertz
Frank William Wertz, 73, longtime resident of Emmet county died at 10 p.m. Wednesday [January 31, 1957] at Holy Family Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Free Methodist Church.Mr. Wertz had been ill with cancer for the past two years. He had been hospitalized at Holy Family for three weeks prior to his death.
Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home from 7 p.m. today. The Rev. James E. Brown of Armstrong Free Methodist Church will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove cemetery.
The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Wertz, Frank Wertz was born Oct. 27, 1883 [per WW I draft records, 1882] at West Branch. He received his education in the local schools there. He came to Emmet county with his parents in 1900 and settled on a farm near Dolliver.
Frank Wertz was united in marriage to Amber Knode, June 11, 1910, at the Estherville Methodist Church. After their marriage they farmed near Dolliver until 1921 at which time they moved to Estherville.
In 19828 the Wertzs returned to a farm near Dolliver and in 1931 moved from Dolliver to Armstrong where Mr. Wertz was engaged in trucking and buying livestock until his health failed.
Mrs. Wertz died March 11, 1951 and Mr. Wertz continued to make his home in Armstrong until last August at which time he went to Fairmont, Minn. to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Helen Zufall.
Mr. Wertz was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include his daughter; three grandchildren, Mrs. Harm (Eula Belle) Lewerke, Harry Zufall and Joan Zufall, and five great grandchildren, all of Fairmont. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Winifred Schely of Seattle, Wash. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1957)
