Last Rites Held For Peg O’Neill

Marguerite Anna (Peg) O'Neill. 80, of Rockford, a former teacher and operator of a grocery store, died Friday, April 6, 1984, at a Mason City hospital.

Funeral Services were held Monday at Holy Name Church, Rockford, with the Rev. Philip Thompson, a cousin, and Monsignor Paul Maguire officiating. Burial was in an Estherville cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Paulus, Gene Pfertzel, John Engels, Larry Miller, Don Weiner, and Jim Montag. Organist was LaVern Bakeman.

Miss O'Neill was born August 13, 1903, to Joseph Francis and Mary (Hearity) O'Neill in Armstrong. She went to grade school in Armstrong and Emmetsburg before attending Minnesota schools.

Miss O'Neill graduated from Winona State Teachers College in Minnesota and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She taught in junior high schools in Minnesota and in rural schools in the Swea City and Rockford areas.

She moved to Rockford in 1936 to operate a grocery store with her brother. The two retired in 1973.

Miss O'Neill was a member of Holy Name Church and was active in senior citizens groups. She was an Agency on Aging senior advocate for Floyd County.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Marie Leonard, Plainview, and four nephews. (Rockford Register, Rockford, IA, April 12, 1984)
