Jens C. Christensen Dies at 86

Jens C. Christensen, 86, Estherville area resident for the past 12 years, died Sunday [June 30, 1957] at 12:15 a.m. at his home where he had been confined to his bed for the past two and one-half years.

Funeral services for Mr. Christensen will be conducted tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.at Sternborg Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church. The Rev. B. A. Wendlandt of Cedar Rapids, former Dolliver and Huntington Methodist pastor, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Christensen was born March 1, 1871 in Denmark. He came to the United States as a young man living first in Cedar County and later in Humboldt County.

He was united in marriage to the former Johanna Nielsen July 15, 1904. The observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1954.

Mr. and Mrs. Christensen moved to a farm west of Estherville in 1915 and later to their farm north of Estherville. In 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Christensen retired from farming and moved to their home in Estherville.

Mr. Christensen is a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow, five sons, Harry, Roy, Edwin, Wesley and Nels; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Evelyn) Hoganson and Mrs. Vernon (Eldora) Jensen all living near Estherville; 18 grandchildren; two half-brothers, Andrew and Nels of Humboldt and two half-sisters, Mrs. Theodore Jensen and Mrs. P.O.Nelson both living in Humboldt.

Burial following the services tomorrow will be in East Side Cemetery.
