From the Fairmont Sentinel
Died, in Iowa Lake, Iowa, March 7th, of heart failure, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clayton Follett, Mrs. Amanda [Amanda M. Locke] Wallace age 63 years. Always strong and well and of untiring energy and ambition to a few months previous to her death when her health began to fail and was unusually well the day of her death, retiring as usual and in a few minutes calling her children and almost immediately expiring. ‘Tis a sad blow to them all and they can hardly realize that she is really gone. Her home was at Rock Falls, Wis., where he husband was buried a few years ago, since which time the oldest son has lived on the old home stead and Mrs. Wallace has made her home with her youngest daughter at Iowa Lake. Kind and unselfish, always preferring others before herself, she has endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact and many and sincere were the tears that fell as we gathered around the dear old form and thought of the long years of loneliness without her. Eight children are left Lee and Frank Wallace, and Mrs. Nina Bradford, Eau Claire Co., Wis.; Will Wallace of Tenhassen; Mrs. Lotta and Edith Follett, Iowa Lake; Mrs. Lillian Dalrymple of Delmont, S.D. All were present at the funeral but Mrs. Dalrymple. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church in Armstrong, the sermon preached by Rev. Wilson and the loved one laid to rest in the Armstrong cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 23, 1898)
