Leo Walders
Armstrong – Memorial services for Leo Walders, 76, of Armstrong will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 1997 at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong with the Rev. Dan Miller officiating. He died on Saturday, December 28 at his home in Armstrong.

There will be no visitation before the memorial service.

He was born on November 17, 1920 in Bancroft, the son of Fred and Mary (Agner) Walders. He attended country schools around Armstrong and at the Armstrong Community School and lived in the Armstrong area most of his life. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Southern Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea. After the war, he did carpentry work for a time, drove a bulk truck and was then employed by the City of Armstrong for many years. He then worked for Arts-Way Mfg. until his retirement in 1988. He was united to Margie Dean Eckholm on August 25, 1951 in Fairmont, Minn. He later was married to Evelyn (Bonnie) Fisher Anderson on April 8, 1983 in Webster City.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Bonnie) Walders of Armstrong; two sons, Larry Walders of Armstrong and Terry Walders of Armstrong; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, seven brothers, three half-brothers and one half-sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1996)
