Armstrong – Funeral services for Donald Eugene York, 78, of Armstrong, formerly of Estherville, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sat., May 17, 1997 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with Dr. Mike Thiel officiating. Interment will be held at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong with military graveside rites by the Armstrong VFW Post. He died on Wed., May 14, 1997 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Fall, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm. on Friday, May 16 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on June 2, 1997 [1918] in Estherville, the son of Guy and Mae (Anderson) York. He attended Emmet Consolidated School and graduated from Emmet Consolidated High School. After high school he farmed for several years for Henry Anderson near Estherville until he enlisted in the army during World War II. He served in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. After the war he resumed farming and lived in the Estherville area. He also worked for Art’s Way until 1965 when he moved to Illinois. He was united in marriage to Wilma Burgess. In 1976 he retired and the couple moved to Armstrong. Wilma died in 1987.

He was a member of the Christian Church and the VFW.

He is survived by his son, Bob York of Alpha, Minn., seven grandchildren, Tammy, Tina, Angie, Jim, Dawn, Angie and Denise; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Erma Strube of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 16, 1997)
