Spirit Lake – Funeral services for Dr. Russel A. Yanke, 49, of Spirit Lake will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Mon. May 5, 1997 at the Free Methodist Church in Armstrong with Pastor Dan Miller officiating. Interment will be held at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong. He died on Fri. May 2, 1997 at Marion Health Center in Sioux City.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong.

He was born on April 14, 1948 in Burlington, Wis., the son of Sidney M. and Catherine R. (Adrian) Yanke. He received his education in the Burlington, Wis. schools graduating from Burlington High School in 1966. He then attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport. Following college, he owned a chiropractic clinic in Branson, Mo. He then moved to Sumner and later moved to Oelwein. He was united in marriage to Joyce Dugan on July 29, 1977 in Oelwein. After their marriage, he returned to college to further his education. He practiced in Spencer for a short time before purchasing a chiropractic clinic in Armstrong where he practiced for 13 years. In the late 1980s, he purchased a clinic in Estherville with Dr. Steve Fiala. In 1992, the couple moved to Spirit Lake where he purchased an additional clinic.

He attended the Free Methodist church in Armstrong. He was past president of the ABC Club, Kiwanis and Fire Board in Armstrong. He also was a member of the National Chiropractic Society.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Spirit Lake; sons, John Yanke of Silverthorne, Colo.; Scott Yanke of Spirit Lake; step-daughter, Mrs. Troy (Lisa) Clary of Richland Center, Wis.; step-sons, Joe Koch of Richland Center, Wis.; and Chris Koch of Richland Center; grandchildren, Austin and MacKenzie Clary, Trever Koch.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1997)
