Armstrong – Private funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 21, for L. [Lemuel] Dewitt Grussing, 82, Armstrong, at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Armstrong with Pastor C. Kent Wever officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Saturday, Dec. 17, 1983 in a Cherokee hospital.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Grussing was born Jan. 7, 1901 in Martin County, Minn.,[per Iowa Birth records, born in Kossuth County, Iowa] the son of Folkert and Maie Belle (Nichols) Grussing. As a child his parents moved to the Armstrong area where he received his education in a rural school and at the Armstrong school. On March 10, 1928 he was united in marriage with Lillian Esther Thompson at Jackson, Minn. The couple lived in Jackson, Minn., Kansas City, Kans., Chicago, Ill. and Venice, Calif. In 1948 they moved back to the home farm southeast of Armstrong and remained until his last illness.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian, Armstrong; a son, Warren Grussing, Armstrong; a daughter, Mrs. Wilfred (Helen) Brown, Armstrong; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lavonia. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 19, 1983)
