Armstrong – Service for Lillian Esther Grussing, 91 will be held Monday, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong with Rev. John and Rev. Amanda Werth officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong. She died Friday, January 10, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

She was born January 16, 1900 near Armstrong, the daughter of John and Mae (Miller) Thompson. She attended school through the 10th grade in Ringsted and graduated from Estherville High School. She attended Iowa State Teacher College in Cedar Falls, and later the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

She married Dewitt Grussing on March 10, 1928 in Jackson, Minn. She taught school in a country school near Ringsted and the Armstrong Community School. After her marriage, the couple lived in Jackson, Kansas City, Kan., Chicago, Ill., and Venice, Cal. During World War II she was employed at Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, Ca. In 1948, they moved to the home southwest of Armstrong. Mr. Grussing died on December 17, 1983. She was a member if the First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong.

She is survived by one son, Warren Grussing of Armstrong; one daughter, Mrs. Wilfred (Helen) Brown of Armstrong; six grandchildren, David Grussing, Kathryn Grussing, Laurie Grussing, Gary Brown, Janet Laidig, and Marilyn Dolf; one brother, Donald Thompson of Vancouver, Wash.; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, and a son-in-law, Wilfred. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 13, 1992)
