Armstrong – Norval S. [Saxton] Gochanour, 78, Armstrong, died Saturday [April 22, 1978] afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Services for Mr. Gochanour will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, with the Rev. Raymond Wuerch, Calvary Gospel Assembly Church, Estherville, officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, until time of services.

Mr. Gochanour was born Aug. 11, 1899, in Streator, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gochanour. He received his education in Streator schools and was married to Sarah McKibben on Feb. 1, 1936, at Greenup, Ky.

The couple lived in Ohio for 15 years before moving to Armstrong in 1950. He worked a John Morrell and Company, Estherville until his retirement and for the past 2 ½ years was a resident of Valley Vue Nursing Home, Armstrong.

He is survived by one son, Noel Gochanour, Armstrong; four daughters, Gwendalyn Gochanour, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Helgason and Mrs. Ken (Marcia) Morphew, all of Armstrong, and Mrs. Vernon (Bonnie) Shumski, Granada, Minn.; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Gochanour was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four sisters and five brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 17, 1978)
