Word was received Monday morning of the death of Mrs. Clifford Gage at Pine Knoll sanatorium at Davenport early Monday morning. Mrs. Harper Gage left last week to be with her. The body arrived in Estherville Tuesday morning. Clifford Gage is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harper Gage. Mrs. Gage had often visited at their home and so was quite well known here. Passed Away at Davenport – Funeral Services Will Be Held Tomorrow Afternoon
Mrs. Clifford Gage of this city died in a sanitarium at Davenport last Sunday evening. She had gone to that place last fall in an effort to regain her health after a severe attack of pneumonia, which she suffered some time ago. She made a brave fight for her life, but the end was inevitable and she is at rest. The body was brought to this city yesterday morning.

Mrs. Gage was one of the popular young ladies of this city. Of charming personality and with a cheery smile for all, she was a favorite among her circle of friends. Her husband is one of the popular clerks of the Mahlum & Anderson furniture store and he has the deepest sympathy of the entire community in the loss of his wife.

Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, Rev. J.W. LaGrone in charge. Burial will be made at Armstrong. Complete obituary will be given next week. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1922)

Mrs. Ethel Gage, wife of Clifford W. Gage died early Monday morning at Pine Knoll Sanitarium, Davenport. Just as the clock struck the hour of twelve-thirty the spirit passed from the young body back to its Maker, leaving disconsolate a loving husband.

Mrs. Gage had been ill of the dread disease tuberculosis but a short time and as soon as her condition was determined she was taken to a sanitarium at Davenport where she was given every care and attention. Her husband and mother in law were with her at the time of her death and she was conscious of the comfort of their presence until the very last.

Ethel McSpaden was born September 20, 1901 in Carter county, Mo., and moved to this county with her father John McSpaden about seven years ago and resided on a farm with him and her three brothers, Ray, Arthur and Melvin and little sister Nellie. Her father later moved away. She was married on November 30, 1919 to Clifford Gage and has since lived in this city.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at two thirty, with the Rev. LaGrone in charge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1922)

Remains Were Brought Here From Davenport Where She Died in Hospital
Ethel May McSpadden was born in Carter County, Mo., September 20, 1901 and died in Davenport, Iowa, January 30, 1922. Age 20 years, four months and ten days.

She came to Estherville with her father and three brothers and one sister, about seven years ago and has since made her home here. She was united in marriage to Clifford Gage of this city, on November 30, 1919. She early united with the Methodist Episcopal church on probation and was received into full membership June 15, 1919.

Several months ago she became an intense sufferer and never again was well, however, she was up and about for a short time. During her sickness, when visited by her pastor, she expressed the greatest joy in that she had a living faith in her Lord and Savior. She died in this faith, having expressed a desire to be buried from the church which she loved and which had brought light and hope into her life. She was a quiet, unassuming girl, of beautiful Christian character.

She is mourned by her husband and other relatives and by a goodly number of friends who had come to highly respect her and to admire her simple Christian life. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church, with the Rev. J.W. LaGrone in charge, and the body was taken to Armstrong for burial on Thursday afternoon.
