Paralysis Cause Death Gruver Man
Gruver, Iowa, June 30 – Harper Gage died near Armstrong Friday [June 27, 1930] from a stroke of paralysis at the age of 64 years. Mr. Gage had been working northwest of Armstrong, but not having felt well for the past two weeks had been staying at the home of his son Donald and had gone to visit a neighbor for the day when death came. The funeral was held from the home of his son Donald Sunday afternoon and burial made in the Armstrong cemetery by the side of his first wife and a child who had preceded him in death. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Gertie Gage and sons Donald, Clifford, Richard and Garland, and daughters, Orpha and Elva and five grandchildren to mourn his loss. Harper Gage, who has been working near Swea City, suffered a paralytic stroke Friday while cultivating potatoes. He was dead before assistance could reach him. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, July 3, 1930)

Harper Gage, 64, Stricken While At Work, Dies
Pioneer 39 Years of Emmet County
Harper Gage, 64, died Friday morning at the home of his son, Donald Gage, near Armstrong. He was a work when after a moment’s illness he passed away. Mr. Gage had been a resident of Emmet county for 39 years.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of his son and burial was made in the Armstrong cemetery. He is survived by his wife and six children, Donald, Clifford, Richard, Garland, Orpha and Elva.

Harper Gage was born June 21, 1886, at Marseilles, Ill. When a small child he moved to Cygne, Kan., with his parents. In 1891 he moved to Emmet county and has lived here ever since. He was married to Margaret Rice in 1897 and to this union two sons, Clifford and Donald, were born. His wife died in 1900 and two years later he married Gertie Rice. Four children were born to this union, Richard, Garland, Orpha and Elva. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, July 3, 1930)
