Early Resident Armstr’ng Dies
Mrs. Thos. Goodge Passed Away at Sioux Falls
Armstrong, April 12 – Mrs. Thomas Goodge died Tuesday [April 11, 1933, per SD Death Index, April 10, 1933] at the home of her daughter at Sioux Falls, S.D. Mrs. Goodge had been a resident of Armstrong for 27 years, until the past few years. Because of her and Mr. Goodge’s advanced age they have spent the winters at the Veterans home at Marshalltown or with a daughter at Sioux Falls and the summer months have been spent in their home in Armstrong. Besides her husband she leaves three daughters and one son. Funeral services are being held Thursday at Sioux Falls.

Mrs. Thomas Goodge was born in Donovan, England in 1848 and died April 10, 1933 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Fredericks at Sioux Falls, S.D., at the age of 85 years. When she was 5 years old she came with her parents to this country. The early part of her life she lived in Mankato and Lake Crystal, Minn. She was united in marriage to Thomas Goodge in 1870 and continued to life in Minnesota until they came to Armstrong twenty-five years ago.

Ten children were born to this union. Five preceded their mother in death. Those left with their father to mourn her loss are, Mrs. Cora Patterson, Remmer, Minn., Mrs. Margie Alexandra, Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. James Fredericks, Sioux Falls, S.D., Robert Goodge, Mankato, Minn., and Harry Goodge, Rochester, Minn. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Libby Othoudt,, Mankato, and Mrs. Sarah Mericle of Wisconsin, 2 brothers Ben Young [Youngs] of Mankato and Will Young [Youngs] of California.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Peterson chapel at Sioux Falls in charge of Rev. Kruchel of Mankato. The same minister conducted her mother’s funeral at Mankato several years ago. Burial was made in the Woodlawn cemetery at Sioux Falls.
