Armstrong Man Dies at Farm Home
John H. Fjelsrud, 86, died at his farm home northeast of Armstrong Friday [April 5, 1957] morning of a lingering illness.

Born Jan. 2, 1871, at Gjovick, Norway, Fjelsrud came to Iowa in1890 where he made his home with his half brother, Andrew Peterson, on a farm near Bode. He later moved to St. Paul and lived with a brother, Hans Fjelsrud, and was employed as a street car operator for two years. He returned to Bode after that and worked on his half brother’s farm again.

On March 2, 1918, he was married to Hansina Hansen at Estherville. The couple farmed near Dolliver for seven years and then moved to their present farm northeast of Armstrong.

Mr. Fjelsrud, the son of Hans and Martha Fjelsrud, was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Gjovick, Norway, at the age of 14. He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Armstrong.

Survivors include his wife and a son Helmer who is living at home. Other survivors include two nephews in this country and several distant relatives in Norway. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, the Rev. Harlan Blockhus officiating. Burial will be at Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call from Sunday noon until time of the service at Slaba Funeral Home in Armstrong. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 6, 1957)

Relative Dies
Mrs. Olaf Haug was called to Armstrong last week Sunday by the death of a relative, John Fjelsrud. She was accompanied on the trip by her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Olvin Haug, of Ottosen. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, April 16, 1957)

Former Resident Died
John Fjelsrud, 86, former Bode resident, died April 5 at his home in Armstrong. Funeral services were held April 9 at Armstrong.

Mr. Fjelsrud came to the United States in 1890 and settled on a farm near Bode, where he lived until 1916, when he moved to Armstrong.

Armstrong Man Succumbs at 86

ARMSTRONG--Death came to John Fjelsrud, 86, at the farm home of his son Helmer 5½ miles northeast of Armstrong, at 9 a.m. today. Death was attributed to the infirmities of age. He had been in failing health for several years.

Fjelsrud had farmed for many years in the Armstrong and Dolliver vicinities. His wife survives.

Funeral arrangements are not complete except that they will be held from Nazarenth Lutheran church here with the Rev. Harlan Blockhus officiating and burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery.
