Laurence Edward Evans, the son of Edward and Anna (Balmer) Evans, was born May 27, 1922, in Dolliver, Iowa. Laurence passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at his home in Armstrong, Iowa, at the age of 92.

He grew up in the Dolliver area and received his education in the Dolliver schools, graduating from Dolliver High School in 1939.

He married Phyllis Krueger on September 22, 1946, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minnesota. They started their married life together farming with Laurence's father in the Armstrong area and continued farming with his son, Lee until his retirement. His deep love of farming kept him coming back every year to run the combine for Lee until 3 years ago. Laurence saw tremendous changes in the farming methods in his years. From horses to auto-steer! They moved into Armstrong after he retired.

Laurence has been an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church most of his life, where he helped with the building of the new church and he and Phyllis were Luther League sponsors for many years, developing life long relationships with many of the Leaguers. In addition to farming, Laurence was a Pioneer Seed Salesman for many years. Those were the years of no forklifts and everything was loaded and unloaded by hand. Laurence and Phyllis enjoyed spending time with their camper during the winter months in Florida and at Okoboji in the summer. Their children and families got many opportunities to spend time with them in these places. Laurence was truly a family man, taking his family of 6 kids on many family trips in a station wagon and pop up camper, creating priceless and life long memories. The joy of any of his days was seeing his grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. His eyes twinkled anytime they were around!

Left to cherish Laurence's memory are his wife of almost 68 years, Phyllis of Armstrong; children, Marsha Evans of Armstrong; Mary (Roger) Tirevold of Armstrong; Janet Isaacson (Dwight Kiem) of Mason City, Iowa; Lee Evans of Armstrong; Carol (Greg) Sukalski of Fairmont, Minnesota; adopted daughter, Diane Kludt of Del Rapids, South Dakota; grandchildren, Sharon (Mike) Hooge, Katrina (Chris) Thiel; Tylor (Kate) Evans, Tyler (Jessica) Isaacson, Dustin (Holly) Tirevold; Brady (Shannon) Evans, Brandon (Laura) Evans, Ryan Isaacson, Nathan Tirevold, Trey Sukalski, Ashley (Adam) Fries, Lindsey Isaacson, Logan (Vlad) Evans; 13 1/2 great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Mullowney of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Doris Norman of North Branch, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Elaine Ashpole of Le Sueur, Minnesota; Elaine Krueger of Fairmont, Minnesota, June LaVigne of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Ken Krueger of Ripon, California and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Larry; his parents, Edward and Anna Evans; his in-laws, Gus and Frances Krueger; his sister, Joyce Putney and brothers-in-law, Tom Putney, David Norman, Jerry Mullowney, Herb Krueger and Dr. Ken Ashpole. (MC)
