Local Man Succumbs at Vet Hospital
Raymond Marion (Kid) Evans, 55, lifetime resident of Emmet county, died yesterday at 12:30 p.m. at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, where he had been hospitalized since Jan. 12. Mr. Evans’ death was attributed to a coronary condition. He had been in failing health for the past 10 years.Born Nov. 24, 1905, on a farm near Dolliver, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Evans. He received his education in the Dolliver schools.
Mr. Evans and Edna Griese were married Feb.19, 1930 at Fairmont, Minn. After their marriage they lived for 15 years in the Dolliver area. Mr. Evans served with the Armed Forces during World War II and after his discharge in 1945, he and Mrs. Evans moved to Estherville.
After moving here he was employed first by the county and later worked for the Davis Packing Company.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Evans is survived by his widow, Edna, of Estherville, and two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Olive) Miller of Dolliver and Mrs. Bessie Miller of Ringsted. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services are to be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church at Dolliver, the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from Tuesday morning until Wednesday at 9 a.m. at which time the body is to be taken to Dolliver to lie in state at the church until time of services.
