Armstrong – Funeral services for Lyle R. England, 87, of Armstrong will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong with the Reverend Dan Miller officiating. Interment will be held at Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died on Monday, Aug. 7, 2000 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong with Masonic services being held at 7:30 p.m.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1913 in Rockwell City, [the] son of John and Lillie (Mitchell) England. He moved to the Ringsted area as a young boy. He received his education in the school at Halfa and graduated from Halfa High School in 1934.
On June 4, 1938, he was united in marriage to Mandaline Paris in Fort Dodge. They farmed in the Armstrong, Ringsted and Seneca area for 39 years. The couple moved to Eagle Grove and he was employed as a drier operator at Boone Valley, a soy processing plant.
In 1989, the couple moved back to Armstrong. He has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville for three and one-half years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong. He was also a member of the North Star Lodge #447. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and pool.
He is survived by his wife, Mandy of Armstrong; three daughters, Jeanne Mogler and her husband, Robert of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Mary Schmidt and her husband, Darrel of Lone Rock and Barbara Carro and her husband, Bob of Durango, Colo.; three son, Jerry and his friend, Judy of Bloomington, Minn., Richard and his wife, Dori of Cherokee and Roger and his wife, Marie of Armstrong; 16 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Fertig of Wall Lake and Hazel Hutchinson of Rockwell City and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, one daughter-in-law and a great grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 9, 2000)
