Lewis Eckholm, Swea City, Dies
Last rites for Lewis G. Eckholm, 80, life-long resident of Kossuth county, will be held Friday, Mar. 22, at 1:40 in the Curtis Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. in the Baptist church at Swea City. Rev. S. Hammer will officiate and burial will follow in the Harrison township cemetery.

Mr. Eckholm succumbed to a heart ailment at this home in Swea City early Thursday [March 21, 1957] morning. He had been ill for many years.

Lewis Gustav Eckholm, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.V. Eckholm, was born July 10, 1876, at Seneca. He later farmed and served as custodian of the Swea City school. He and his wife, Helen, have resided in Swea City for the past 53 years. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Harvey and Valdon Eckholm, and a daughter, Vida (Mrs. Nick Burgess), all of Armstrong; two sisters, Lydia and Effie, Des Moines; a brother, Otto, Ingelwood, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Eckholm Rites to Be Friday at Swea City
Swea City – Funeral services for Lewis G. Eckholm, 80, will be conducted Friday at 1:40 at the Curtis Funeral Home and at 2 at the Baptist Church. The Rev. S.H. Hammer, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate in the absence of a Baptist minister. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery.

Mr. Eckholm died Tuesday at his home here of a heart condition. He had been ill since 1943.

He was born July 10, 1876, in Seneca Township, Kosuth County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Eckholm, pioneer resident. He was educated in the rural schools. In 1899, he was married to Helen Harris, Forest City. He was a farmer and later became custodian at the Swea City school and lived in Swea City for 53 years.

Surviving are three children, Harvey and Valdom [Valdon], and Mrs. Nick (Vida) Burgess, all of Armstrong; a brother, Otto, Inglewood, Calif., and two sisters, Lydia and Effie, Des Moines. There are 16 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. (Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, IA, March 21, 1957)
