Ringsted – Services for Merritt Giffin, 60, Ringsted, are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel, Ringsted, with Father Dale Koster, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Armstrong, officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Bancroft.Mr. Giffin died Saturday [March 5, 1977] at Fairmont Community Hospital.
Rosary will be said at 8 o’clock tonight at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services.
Born Feb. 20, 1917, at Ringsted, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert E. [V] Giffin, he received his education in Ringsted schools and attended Iowa State University, Ames.
He was married to Pat Sheridan March 25, 1940, at McGregor, and lived all his life in the Ringsted area, where he farmed and operated a farm management and loan business. He also was a seed corn dealer for 15 years.
Mr. Giffin is survived by his wife, Pat, Ringsted; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Peggy) Schneider, Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Curt (Pam) Riedel, Mason City; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Don Boever, Carmichael, Calif., and Mrs. Phyllis Apple, Warrenton, Ore., and Mrs. Roger Christensen, Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 7, 1977)
