David Dundas of Armstrong Passes Away
Armstrong (Journal) – David Dundas, a resident of Emmet county for 58 years, passed away at his home in Armstrong early Thursday morning, October 18, at the age of 79 years. Mr. Dundas has been an invalid for the past eight years and about two weeks ago was taken ill with an attack of the grip. His weakened condition and advancing years made it impossible for him to recover from the attack.Mr. Dundas was born in Canada in 1849 [per cemetery records 1847] and later moved with his parents to DeKalb county, Illinois. In 1865 the family moved to Kossuth county, Iowa, and five years later to Emmet county. Mr. Dundas remained with his parents until he was 23 years of age, when he took up a homestead in Armstrong Grove township, which he operated for 31 years. At the end of this period he moved to the property adjoining Armstrong where he has since resided.
He was married in November 1874, to Miss Hattie Churchill. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dundas, four of whom preceded the father in death. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lee Hoppus, and two sons, Alfred, of Miles City, Mont., and Archie, of Granada, Minn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and 2 o’clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C.B. Mitchell. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, October 24, 1928)
