Hillis Duitsman
Armstrong – Services for Hillis Duitsman, 93, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church with Pastor Donohue Sarff officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Saturday, Nov. 25, 1989 at Valley Vue Care Center, Armstrong.

Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Aug. 4, 1896 at Fonda, the son of Frederick and Nannie (Burk) Duitsman and attended rural school. On Sept. 28, 1921 he married Dorothy Holtorf at Pomeroy. He farmed in Fonda, Emmetsburg, Ayrshire and Armstrong areas and was caretaker for Armstrong Grove Cemetery for 20 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy, Armstrong; six sons: Fred, Ozark, Mo.; Kenneth and Gordon, Estherville; Raymond, Everett, Wash.; William, Lynnwood, Wash.; and Richard, Armstrong; Six daughters: Mrs. Elmo (Iris) McConnell, Versailles, Mo.; Mrs. Loren (Dolores) Anderson, Port Wing, Wis.; Mrs. Paul (Violet) Kliegl, Amherst, Wis.; Mrs. Larry (Carol) Janssen, Norfolk, Minn.; Mrs. Ronald (Helen) Rose, Fairmont, Minn. and Mrs. Kenneth (Jeanne) Gettler, Alpha, Minn.; 45 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five sisters: Johanna Burmeister, Fonda; Pansy Bangert and Violet Siefkin, Pomeroy; Jennie Nowak, Havelock and Molly Grider, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; three brothers; two sisters; one great-granddaughter and one grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 29, 1989)
