1 Killed in Auto Accident
Mrs. Florence Dotson, 73, of Armstrong died about 10:30 p.m. yesterday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident yesterday at 7 p.m.

A passenger in a car driven by Mrs. Dotson, Mrs. Frank Schneider of Armstrong, is reported in fair condition at the Fort Dodge hospital.

The accident occurred on Highway 169 approximately one-half mile south of the Fort Dodge city limits. The Dotson car had pulled out to pass a truck, when it collided head-on with a car driven by Keith Hunt, 31, of Boone, according to the Webster County sheriff’s department.

Mrs. Hunt, who was a passenger in the car driven by her husband, is reported in critical condition, and Hunt in fair condition at the hospital.

Mrs. Dotson is a former employee of the Colston Pharmacy in Armstrong. Arrangements are pending at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 14, 1966)

Final Rites on Tuesday
Armstrong – Family services for Mrs. Florence Dotson, 73, of Armstrong will be Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Armstrong, followed by public services at 2 p.m., Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Dotson died Friday [May 13, 1966] night as a result of injuries suffered in a two-car collision near Fort Dodge. Mrs. Frank Steiner of Armstrong, a passenger in the car, was hospitalized in Fort Dodge.

Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong tonight until 10:30 a.m. Friday. The body will lie in state at the church, 1-2 pm.

The family has established a memorial fund for the Presbyterian Church at Armstrong and the Heart Association.

The former Florence Lucina Gochanour was born Aug. 24, 1892, at Streater, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gochanour.

She graduated from Streater high school and attended Normal University at Normal, Ill. For a short time she taught school at Saybrook, Ill.

Feb. 15, 1915 she married Clem Dotson at Bloomington, Ill. The couple farmed in Story and Kossuth counties before coming to Emmet in 1929. They first had a farm eight miles southeast of Armstrong, and then three miles west of Armstrong, before they retired and moved to town.

Mrs. Dotson was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was the Republican committeewoman for Emmet County and active in the Farm Bureau Women’s organization. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.

Mrs. Dotson is survived by four sons, Gail of Armstrong, Merlin of Gruver, Darrel of Rock Island, Ill., and Vernon of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Emmet (Gladys) Eastman of Armstrong, and Mrs. Harvey (Noradel) Larsen of Swea City; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Norval Cochanour of Armstrong, Ernest of Noonan, N.D., and Carl of Crosby, N.D.; and one sister, Mrs. Luella Jenkins of Jefferson, Ohio.
