Dolliver Man Dies
Earnest DeVary, 51, of Dolliver died last night in University Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral arrangements for Mr. DeVary are pending at Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 18, 1963)DeVary Rites To Be Friday
Dolliver – Funeral services will be held here Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church for Ernest [Earnest] Hilton DeVary, 51, longtime resident who died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at the University Hospital in Iowa City.He was born July 25, 1913, at Grundy Center, the son of Fred and Druise DeVary. He received his education in Grundy Center area schools and on Jan. 24, 1931, he was married to Lucille McGregor at Algona.
The couple famed in Kossuth County before coming to Emmet County in1945. They farmed near Swea City, Wallingford and Dolliver prior to his retirement after his health started to fail. They moved to Dolliver where he did upholstering and served as custodian at the Methodist Church, where he was a member of the church board.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Lucas (Marilyn) Mein, Estherville, and Donna, at home; and two sons, Richard of Estherville and Dennis, living at home.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Donald Gage, Ringsted; and Mrs. Raymond Bahl, Mason City; three brothers, Ordean and Frank of Mason City, and Sturgle, Pontiac, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, a brother and a sister.
The Revs. Roger Tappmeyer of Armstrong and Donald Glazer will officiate at the service and burial is to be at Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Family services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Hunt, Albert Hardecopf, Paul Young and Galen Weber, and active pallbearers will be Dale Young, Joe Sampson, Harold Laffey, Jim O’Sell, Gerald Mein and Edgar Iverson.
Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home this evening until 10 a.m. Friday when the body will be taken to lie in state at the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 19, 1963)
