On January 24, 1931, Lucille was united in marriage to Earnest DeVary at the Methodist Church in Algona, Iowa. After their marriage the couple began raising their family and lived in the rural Swea City, Iowa, Seneca and Wallingford, Iowa, areas for a time before settling in rural Dolliver, Iowa, on a farm. Later after Earnest's death, Lucille stayed in Dolliver until she moved into Estherville at Good Samaritan. Lucille was employed outside the home in the Dolliver and Gruver Lincoln Central School Districts, where she served as a cook for thirty plus years. She also helped at Ingham Lake Bible Camp and the Lutheran Lakeside Camp. Lucille was chaperone for girl's basketball at Lincoln Central School and also a 4H Leader for many years.
