Rufus Cummins, 58, of Dolliver, suffered a fatal heart attack this morning while he and Wesley Anderson were cutting brush along a county road south of Wallingford. The two men were employed by Emmet County and had been taking turns running the saw.

Cummins had gone to the truck to rest while Anderson took his turn with the saw. Anderson returned to the truck to see what was wrong when Cummins did not reappear in a few minutes. Anderson found Cummings lying in the truck and called a doctor, but Cummins died before the doctor arrived.

Survivors include Mr. Cummins’ wife; five sons, Eldon and Darold Cummins, both of Ringsted; Virgil of East Chain, Minn.; Duane of the Dunnell-Ceylon area and Beryl of Fairmont; and two daughters.

Rites for Cummins To Be Saturday
Funeral services for Rufus E. Cummins, 59, Dolliver, who died yesterday morning of a heart attack while cutting brush along the highway south of Wallingford will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Armstrong with the Rev. James Warren of Ringsted officiating. Mr. Cummins had been in ailing health for the past five years.

Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home in Armstrong from Friday noon until time of services. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Cummins was born March 25, 1901, at Ottawa, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cummins. He received his education in the Armstrong area schools and was married to Cornelia Palmer of Estherville. He had been employed by Emmet County for a number of years as an operator of heavy equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Cornelia; five sons, Eldon Cummins of Graettinger, Darold Cummins of Ringsted; Virgil Cummins of Swea City; Duane Cummins of David City, Neb., and Beryl Cummins of Fairmont, Minn.; and two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Clark of Marshalltown and Mrs. Ernest Miller of Rowan.

Also surviving are two brothers, Vivian Cummins of Fairmont, Minn., and Ralph Cummins of Armstrong and one sister, Edna Lennox of Rochester, Minn. Mr. Cummins was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1960)
