Armstrong – Services for Mrs. Earl (Lena) Cronk, 83, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. She died Monday, Sept. 29, 1986 at the Valley Vue Care Center at Armstrong. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Lena Henrietta Laatz was born Oct. 4, 1902 at Marseilles, Ill., the daughter of John and Margaret (Herman) Laatz; she moved to the Armstrong area with her parents as a girl and lived on a farm east of Armstrong; she attended school in Illinois and Iowa Lake Township country schools. On Nov. 14, 1921 she was united in marriage with Earl Cronk at Armstrong. He died in 1966. After retirement she moved into Armstrong. She was a resident at Valley Vue Care Center for almost five years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors include two sons Melvin and Donald Cronk, Armstrong; two daughters Lois Corderman, Moberly, Mo. and Mrs. Jim (Marlene) Hittesdorf, Waco, Tex.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; two grandsons and one great-grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 1, 1986)
