Funeral Services Held for Former Armstrong Man
Funeral services for a former Armstrong resident, Wayne Eldon [Elden] Cronk, 32, of Waterloo, were held in Armstrong at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Herschel Haw of Emmetsburg officiated. Burial was in Armstrong Grove cemetery with the Waterloo V.F.W. conducting graveside service.

Mr. Cronk was fatally injured early Sunday [September 6, 1953] when the car he was driving went out of control and overturned. He was pinned underneath. The accident occurred near Eagle Grove. His brother-in-law, Robert Kirstein of Clarion was a passenger in the car and is hospitalized with injuries.

Mr. Cronk, son of Richard and Mildred Fletcher Cronk, was born March 28, 1921, in Armstrong. He attended the Armstrong school and grew to manhood here.

He served in the army in World War II for 3 ½ years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Methodist church.

On Sept. 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Cole, of La Porte City and to this union two daughters were born. They made their home in Waterloo where he was an employee of Rath Packing Company.

Survivors include his wife and daughters Janet 4, and Linda 2; his mother, Mrs. Mildred Cronk, and a sister Mrs. Luella Hackerson, both of Northfield, Minn. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 15, 1953)
