Pioneer Passes
Mrs. Bessie Cronk passed away Friday [November 7, 1930] at the home of her sons Earl and Erwin. She has made her home with them since Mr. Cronk’s death several years ago.Mrs. Cronk was 81 years old and has been failing in health for some time.
Surviving her are six sons and two daughters, all of whom are living. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 11, 1930)

Died Friday at Her Home After Short Illness – Was 81 Years Old
Armstrong, Iowa, Nov. 10 – Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church for Mrs. Henry Cronk who died at her home here Friday evening after an illness of four weeks, old age and the flu being the cause of her death. Mary Elizaberth Horswell was born at Plymouth, England, Feb. 18, 1849 and died November 7, 1930 at the age of 81 years. She came with her parents to Canada at the age of 18, and later moved to Humboldt, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Henry Cronk in 1870. Mr. Cronk preceded her in death fourteen years ago. Twelve children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. The living are Mrs. Olive Atkinson of South Dakota; Mrs. Bessie Smith of Lake Mills; Mrs. Amy Nutter of Montana; Miss Jennie Cronk of California; Byron Cronk of Lake Mills and Richard, George, Charlie, Earl and Erwin of Armstrong. Miss Jennie and Mrs. Amy Nutter were unable to attend the funeral. She leaves besides the children to mourn her loss, twenty three grandchildren and one great grandchild, two sisters and a brother.
