Armstrong – Services for Marvin L. [Lavern] Corderman, 79, of Armstrong, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Rothfusz officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong, with full military rites by the Weiby-Johnson VFW Post 5232 of Armstrong and the Christensen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382 of Ringsted. He died Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong.

He was born Feb. 10, 1918 at Sac City, the son of Ellis and Bessie (Bright) Corderman. He began his education in the Jack Creek Twp School and moved to the Ringsted area as a young boy and graduated from Ringsted High School in 1936. On Aug. 2, 1943 he married Clara Engholm at Algona. He served during World War II with the U.S. Marines from 1942-45. He farmed until retiring in 1981 when he move into Armstrong.

He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, served on several church boards, served as board member of First Trust and Savings Bank, Bank Midwest and Farmers Coop Elevator in Armstrong. He was a lifetime member of the Weiby-Johnson VFW Post and the Christensen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post of Ringsted.

Survivors include his wife Clara of Armstrong; daughter, Mrs. Nicholas (Sandra Dee) Lavroy of Albany, Calif.; a son, Steven of Armstrong; five grandchildren: Josephine White, Nicholas White, Scott, Michael and Michele Corderman; brothers Berl of Armstrong and Dale of Moberly, Mo.; sister Mrs. Norman (Lois)Jensen of Ringsted and sister-in-law June Corderman of Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 20, 1997)
