Armstrong Man Dies
Armstrong – William Earl Cornwell, 81, died at 5:00 p.m. yesterday at the Fairmont Community Hospital of complications of a heart ailment and old age. He had been ill since last September.Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church in Armstrong, the Rev. R. S. Tappmeyer officiating. Interment will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba’s Funeral Home after Friday until the time of services.
Mr. Cornwell was born in 1879 in Boone, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cornwell. He was educated in Boone County schools. In 1918 he was married to Orral Porter at Rolfe. The couple lived and farmed at Rolfe for 20 years, then retired and moved to Armstrong.
Mr. Cornwell was a member of the First Methodist Church of Armstrong.
He is survived by his widow and a daughter, JoAnn, living at the home. A son, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 29, 1960)
Wm. Cornwell, 81, Dies Wednesday
William E. Cornwell, 81, died Wednesday afternoon at Fairmont Community hospital of a heart condition. He had been in ill health for some time and had been in serious condition since last September.Services will be conducted by Rev. Roger D. Tappmeyer from the First Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2.
William Earl Cornwell was born to Melvin and Ellen Cornwell Nov. 3, 1879 in Boone county, Illinois where he was also educated.
He was married Dec. 12, 1918 to Orral M. Porter at Rolfe, where they farmed for 18 years. They then moved to the Swea City community for a short time and from 1936 to 1946 they farmed in Minnesota. They retired from farming in 1946 when they moved to Armstrong.
He was affiliated with the Mlethodist church.
He is survived by his wife, and one daughter, JoAnn. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby, three brothers and one sister. (Unknown Newspaper)
