Armstrong Pioneer Dies
Funeral services were to be held this afternoon for Aura Churchill, 84, Armstrong, in the First Methodist Church there with the Rev. R.D. Tappmeyer officiating. Burial was to be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Churchill was found dead Sunday [November 10, 1957] morning at his home in Armstrong by a niece who had been looking after him. Mr. Churchill’s wife had died just a week earlier on Nov. 2.

Aura Churchill, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Churchill was born June 5, 1873 at Armstrong. His parents were one of the first families of that town. On Jan. 25, 1899, he married Isabelle Fox and shortly afterward moved onto the Churchill homestead southeast of Armstrong. They farmed there until 1945 when, upon retirement, they moved to town.

Survivors are three grandchildren and one brother, Harvey, of Parsons, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Leslie, four sisters and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 12, 1957)
