Swea Cityan Dies Sunday at Burlington
William Christensen, 81, formerly of Swea City, died Sunday [June 11, 1972] at 6:55 p.m. from injuries received in an automobile accident that occurred Sunday at 3 p.m. on a blacktop road 15 miles west of Burlington where he had been living since a year ago. He died at Burlington Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Christensen was born July 30, 1890, at Goldfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Christensen and was educated in the rural schools of Kossuth county.

He was married Jan. 20, 1913, to Myrtle McGregor at Algona. He farmed in the Swea City area until his retirement and had lived at Burlington with a daughter, Mrs. I.G. Haugen for the past year.

He was a member of United Methodist Church of Swea City, Masonic Imperial Lodge, Swea City, Burlington Senior Citizens, a life member of the Iowa Historical Society and Hawkeye Native Association.

Surviving are a son, William D. Christensen, Hoffman Estates, Ill., a daughter, Mrs. I.G. (Dorothy) Haugen, Burlington, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Roy C. of Luverne, and Forrest of Coos Bay, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie McGregor, Armstrong, Mrs. Anges Delpherdang, and Mrs. Minnie Jensen, Bancroft.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church at Swea City. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reese-Henry Funeral chapel at Swea City. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 13, 1972)
