Mrs. Catherine Campbell
Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Campbell, 74, a resident of Waterloo for the past 25 years, who died Monday [May 29, 1944] at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Earl Quitmyer, Maynard, Ia., will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Union Christian church near Aurora, Ia., following a short prayer service in Delsing funeral home in Maynard at 1:15 p.m.Burial will be at Union cemetery.
Mrs. Campbell, who lived with her son, Donald L. Campbell, 2225 West Fourth street, died of a heart ailment at the home of her daughter where she had been visiting for a few days. She had been in poor health for several months.
Born May 4, 1870, in Clinton, Ia., the daughter of Lauritz and Ellen Lauritzen, she was married to Ewen J. Campbell on Sept. 25, 1885, in Emmetsburg, Ia.
They lived for a few years on a farm near what is now Ringsted, Ia., later operating a clothing store at Hobarton, Ia., before coming to Waterloo.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Frank Thomson, Garrison, Ia., Mrs. E.W. Gregg, Lubbock, Tex., Mrs. F.B. Bocksus, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Mrs. Quitmyer, Maynard.; one son, Donald, 2525 West Fourth; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Jensen, Glendale, Cal., and Mrs. Ella Dietz, Fairmont, Minn.; and two brothers, Charles and Henry Lauritzen, Glendale.
Her husband, two brothers and one son, Ewen Boyd Campbell, who was killed in World war I, preceded her in death. (Waterloo Courier, Waterloo, IA, May 30, 1944)

As Catherine L. Lauritzen, daughter to Lauritz and Ellen Lauritzen, was born May 4, 1870, in Clinton, Iowa. In 1882 she moved with her parents to Emmet county. On Sept. 25, 1885, she was married to Ewen J. Campbell in Emmetsburg.Her entire life was spent in this state at Ringsted, Arlington, Strawberry Point and later at Waterloo.
Surviving are one son, Donald L. of Waterloo; four daughters, Mrs. Frank Thompson, Garrison, Mrs. E.W. Gregg, Lubbock, Texas; Mrs. F.B. Brocksus, Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Mrs. Earl Quitmeyer, Maynard; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Jensen, Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. Ella Dietz, Fairmont, Minn.; two brothers, Charles and Henry Lauritzen of Glendale, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her husband and two brothers preceded her in death, also one son, Ewen Boyd, who gave his life for his country during World War I.
She was affiliated with the Christian church at Union, near Aurora, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Maynard. She led a quiet, helpful life, devoted to her home and family. Funeral services were held at the Union church Thursday afternoon, June 1st, with Rev. B. H. Thorlakson of Aurora officiating. Interment was in Union cemetery.
