Joseph Burt Dies
Joseph Burt, 68, longtime Estherville resident, died at 11:3- p.m. Tuesday [June 14, 1966] at Holy Family Hospital. Arrangements are pending at the Reese Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1966)

Final Rites on Saturday
Funeral services have been scheduled Saturday for Joseph James Burt, 68, of Estherville who died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital.

Family services will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Armstrong Presbyterian Church to follow at 2 o’clock, Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home in Estherville from 7 o’clock tonight until 11 a.m. Friday when the body will be moved to the Slabe-Reese Funeral Home in Armstong to lie in state until noon Saturday.

Joseph James Burt was born Sept. 19, 1897, on a farm near Armstrong in Kossuth county. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Burt. He received his education in rural Armstrong schools.

He farmed near Armstrong until 21 years ago when he moved to Estherville. He was employed by the Tobin Packing Co. and then John Morrell and Co. for 18 years until his retirement three years ago.

Mr. Burt served in the Army in World War II. He is a member of the Armstrong Presbyterian church.

Survivors include four brothers, Glen of Estherville, Andrew of Armstrong, Robert of Fenton and G.A. of Armstrong, and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Wood of Algona and Mrs. Neil Helmers of Dunnell.

Mr. Burt was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 16, 1966)
