Armstrong Pioneer Dies of Heart Disease Monday
(Special o the Vindicator and Republican) – Gilbert Burkhead from 42 years a resident of the Armstrong community died suddenly Monday morning of heart disease at the home of his son, J.V. Burkhead of Armstrong. Mr. Burkhead had been in poor health for some time but was able to be outdoors every day. His death came as a great shock to his relatives and may friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1930)

As we go to press we learn of the death of Gib Burkhead of Armstrong. Mr. Burkhead is an old time resident of this county and greatly beloved in his community. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1930)

Obituary of Wesley Burkhead
Gilbert Wesley Burkhead was born in Benton County, Iowa, March 15, 1861, and died at Armstrong on February 10, 1930, being a the time of his death 68 years, 10 months and 26 days old. He was married on December 12, 1883, to Nora Pike, who died December 29, 1914. To this union two children, Jessie Verlyn, of Armstrong; and Gilbert Clell, of Pasadena, Calif. Mr. Burkhead had lived in this vicinity since 1891. He leaves to mourn his two sons, J.V. Burkhead, and Clell Burkhead. He also leaves four brothers and one sister, E.J. Burkhead, of Armstrong; Joe W. Burkhead of Oakdale, Nebr.; Geo. L. Burkhead of Hillsboro, Calif.; O.Z. Burkhead of Zearing and Mrs. Gertrude (John L.) Moose, Andersonburg, Pa.

Funeral services were held Friday from the home of his son, J.V. Burkhead, and at the M.E. church. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 19, 1930)

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral of G.W. Burkhart [Burkhead] were Clell Burkhart [Burkhead] of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Arminda Fowler, Chas. Fowler and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fowler and son, Vinton; Mrs. Sam Meyers, Gettysburg, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mehls, Independence; Mr. and Mrs. O.Z. Burkhead of Zearing.
