Nick Burgess, 72, Armstrong, Dies; Rites Set
Armstrong – Nick Burgess, 72, Armstrong, died at 2 p.m. Saturday [March 28, 1970], at Holy Family Hospital from a lengthy illness.He was born April 9, 1897 at Exiler [Exeter], Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Burgess. He was educated in Missouri and moved with his family to the Armstrong area when he was 10 years old.
On June 2, 1920, he was married to Vida Eckholm at Estherville.
He was a veteran of World War I and has lived in the Armstrong area since 1910 except for three years when he lived in Pine River, Minn. He worked for the elevator at Armstrong and did custom feed grinding. He retired in 1957.
Survivors include his wife, Vida; two sons, Fae Burgess, Deer Creek, Minn., and Dennis Burgess, Armstrong, four daughters, Mrs. Carlyle (Lois) Mitchell, Spirit Lake, Mrs. Donald (Wilma) York, Riverton, Ill., Mrs. Walter (Deloris) Fangman, Bancroft and Mrs. Charles (Marvea) Clymer, Armstrong; 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Jess Burgess of Mankato, Minn. and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Burns, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Mable King, Pequote Lakes, Minn.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sons and three daughters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Rev. Robert M. Osborn will officiate.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry-Slaba Chapel after 1 p.m. today until noon on Tuesday at which time the body will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 30, 1970)
