Estherville Employe Electrocuted
Estherville – Byrl G. Burgess, 1013 North Sixth Street, died at 10:15 a.m. today from injuries he apparently received while cleaning a city electrical transformer.

Mr. Burgess is believed to have been electrocuted at a substation by Jackson School located at 1022 Second Avenue South. He entered Holy Family Hospital at 9:10 a.m., according to his attending physician.

Services for Mr. Burgess are pending at Henry Funeral Home, Armstrong. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 2, 1976)

Estherville – Funeral services for Byrl Gailard Burgess, 56, Estherville, were held Tuesday, July 6, at the United Methodist Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Travis Cannaday, officiating. Interment was in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery with memorial services conducted by Johnson VFW Post 5232, Armstrong.

Born Feb. 18, at Armstrong, Mr. Burgess succumbed Friday, July 2, after being electrocuted while working as an electrician for Estherville.

Mr. Burgess, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burgess, received his education in Armstrong schools.

He was employed as a lineman for Iowa Power and Light Company, Armstrong, worked for a few years as a lineman in Chicago, Ill., and came to Estherville as a lineman in 1973.

He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, Armstrong; a veteran of World War I and a charter and life member of the Armstrong VFW Post.

Mr. Burgess is survived by three brothers, Gilbert Burgess, Estherville; Delbert Burgess, Fort Dodge, and LeRoy Burgess, Cadillac, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Bernada) Skog, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Ervin (Mavis) Loewenberg, Rockwell City, Mrs. William (Mary Alice) Woody, Decherd, Tenn., and Mrs. Edward (Donna) Grabianowski, Dolliver; 13 nieces; 10 nephews; four grand nieces and 11 grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one nephew.
