Succumbs to Heart Attack At His Home
Armstrong – A heart attack was fatal to Edward Eugene Burgess, 69, yesterday afternoon at his home here. Burgess had been ill for about a year.

The son of Eugene and Mary Burgess, he was born May 17, 1892, in Little Rock, Ark., and received his education in Hardin county. He moved to this county 50 years ago.

Lillie Elizabeth Jones and he were married April 1, 1913, at Fairmont. Burgess has always farmed.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the IOOF lodge.

His wife, one son, Arnold, and three grandchildren preceded him in death. Four sons and four daughters survive.

Sons who survive are Gilbert of Estherville, Delbert of Fort Dodge, Byrl, who lives a home, and Leroy, stationed with the Armed Forces in Germany. Daughters are Mrs. Arnold (Brenda) Skoge, Great Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Ervin (Mavis) Loewenberg, Ringsted; Mrs. William (Mary Alice) Woody, West Des Moines; and Mrs. Edward (Donna) Grabianowski, Armstrong.

Three brothers, Nick of Armstrong, Henry of Sebaka, Minn., and Jesse of East Chain, Minn.; and three sisters, Mrs. George Blow of Armstrong, Mrs. Harold King of Pequot Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Dora Burns of Chicago also survive. There are 21 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending word from son Leroy in the Armed Forces. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 12, 1961)

Burgess Rites Thursday
Armstrong – Funeral services for Edward Eugene Burgess, 69, who died of a heart attack at his home here Sunday, will be held Thursday with family services at 1:30 p.m. and public services at 2 o’clock. Both services will be held at the Armstrong Methodist Church, the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home from tomorrow morning until noon Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 13, 1961)
