Estherville – Services for Mrs. Melvin (Muriel) Brown, 69, of Armstrong, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, with Pastor Paul Rothfusz officiating. Interment will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery at Armstrong. She died January 7, 1994 at Fairmont Community Hospital in Fairmont, MN.

Visitation was held at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong from 4-8 pm.

She was born March 31, 1924 at Armstrong, the daughter of Olai and Mildred (Hanson) Opsal. She received her education [in] the Halfa schools, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1942. On October 3, 1945 she was united in marriage with Melvin Brown at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She moved with her family into Armstrong in 1936 and was employed at the Armstrong Telephone Office and later by Dr. Turner. She was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong and a past Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Brown of Armstrong; two brothers, Effner Opsal and LeRoy Opsal, both of Armstrong; one sister, Karen Sanftner of Armstrong; and one special grand nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 10, 1994)
