R.[Roy] A. [Amos] Bravender of Swea City Passes Away
Shortly after Roy Bravender of Swea City and Miss Waunita Brown, daughter of R.C. Brown, had rehearsed the ceremony for their wedding tomorrow morning, the prospective bridegroom received a message that his father had been stricken with a heart attack. The youth found his father dead when he reached home at Swea City.

R.A. Bravender, whose son’s marriage to Miss Brown has now been indefinitely postponed, was 49 years old, a prominent clothing merchant at Swea City. He died at 11:30 p.m. yesterday.

Prominent Clothing Merchant
He had not been in good health for two weeks although not considered seriously ill. He went for an auto ride with Mrs. Bravender during the evening. Upon returning home he retired, and was stricken in bed.

Mr. Bravender was engaged in the clothing business at Swea City 25 years, and had been in the same business eight years before in Armstrong.

Funeral Not Arranged
He is survived by his widow; a son, Roy; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Clifford of Spencer; two brothers, Lester and Harold; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Butterfield, and his mother, residents of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral arrangements will not be known until word is received from the relatives in California.

When Roy Bravender received word here last night that his father had been taken critically ill he was Miss Brown, his fiancée, and friends who were to be attendants at the wedding, planned to take place at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning in the Presbyterian church. They had just finished the rehearsal at the church, and Mrs. Clifford had left for her home at Spencer. She was notified there at once, and also went immediately to Swea City. R.A. Bravender of Swea City Dies Suddenly
Because of the death of the bride groom’s father, R.A. Bravender of Swea City, the marriage of Roy E. Bravender and Miss Waunita Brown, set for Sunday has been indefinitely postponed.

The senior Mr. Bravender who had been in the clothing business in Swea City for 25 years and previously to that time in Armstrong was but 49 years old. He died of a heart attack Friday night after retiring to his bed upon his return from an auto ride with his wife. He had been ailing for about two weeks but was not thought to be in a serious condition.

Surviving are Mrs. Bravender, the son, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Clifford of Spencer, his mother, two brothers and a sister all of Los Angeles, Calif. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 25, 1938)

Funeral Held Monday for Clothing Man, 49, Victim of Heart Attack last Friday Evening
R.A. Bravender, prominent Swea City clothing merchant, died suddenly at his home last Friday evening, about 11 o’clock. He had not been in good health for about two weeks, although his illness had not been considered serious.

Mr. Bravender was 49 years of age.

He is survived by his widow, a son, Roy, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Clifford of Spencer, two brothers, Lester and Harold, a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Butterfield, and his mother, all residents of Los Angeles, Calif.

Son About to Marry
The son, Roy, was to have been married Sunday to Miss Juanita [Waunita] Brown of Estherville, and at the time of receiving word of his father’s sudden heart attack, was rehearsing for the wedding ceremony with the prospective bride. The young man’s father had passed away by the time he got back to Swea City.

Mr. Bravender had been engaged in the clothing business at Armstrong for eight years.

Close Friends Pallbearers
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Swea City Methodist church, and burial was in the Armstrong cemetery.

Rev. George Semon, Spender, an old friend of Mr. Bravender, preached the funeral sermon, with Rev. Herrold and Rev. Swanson of Swea City assisting.

Pallbearers were close friends of the deceased, Wallace Packman of Iowa City, Orville Trickle of Lakefield, Minn., Tony Hundeby and Harold Christensen of Swea City, Verlie Burkhard of Armstrong and Walter Bovis of Elgin, Iowa.

Masonic services were held at the grave by members of the organization, of which Mr. Bravender was a member. (Algona Upper Des Moines, Algona, IA, October 25, 1938)

Funeral Rites for R.A. Bravender Held
Funeral services for R.A. Bravender, Swea City clothing merchant who died Friday night at his home, were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at the Swea City Methodist church. There was a private service at the home at 1:30 p.m. Burial was in Armstrong cemetery. A brother, Lester Bravender, of Los Angeles, attended the funeral He flew from his home to Omaha and made the rest of the trip to Swea City by bus and automobile. Bravender of Swea City Dies Friday, Oct. 21
Death came suddenly to R.A. Bravender last Friday evening after the family had been out for a pleasure ride. Death was from a heart attack following a mile case of flu.

His son, Roy Bravender was in the city practicing for the church wedding on Sunday when he was to be united in marriage to Miss Waunita Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Brown. As the practice closed Roy received a message announcing the illness of his father and hurried home but not in time to see his father alive.

Mr. Bravender, who has been in the clothing business in Swea City for years, is well and favorably known here.

The funeral services were held on Monday. The wedding which was to be the society event of the season was indefinitely postponed. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 27, 1938)
