Roy C. Brown, 71, Dies
Roy Clement Brown, 71, owner operator of Brown’s Women’s Wear since 1933, died at 7 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Brown had been in poor health for the past one and one-half years. He was hospitalized the past week following another stroke.

Born Oct. 1, 1885 [per cemetery records 1884; WWI Draft Records 1885] at Lohrville, Mr. Brown lived there until he was 18 years old, receiving his education in the Lohrville schools. He then moved to Emmetsburg and worked in a ready-to-wear store for several years.

While in Emmetsburg he was united in marriage to Inez Ellis who died in 1944.

Mr. Brown came to Estherville and was associated with the L.M. Christensen Store until shortly before he opened his own store in 1933.

He was a member of the Elks, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and First Presbyterian Church and was active in civic affairs.

United in marriage to Mrs. Midred Truscott in 1946, Mr. Brown is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. R.E. (Waunita) Bravender of Swea City and Mrs. Jack (Eleanor) Elliston of Los Angeles; a son, Jack Brown of Santa Monica, Calif. and four granddaughters.

Also surviving are three stepchildren, Mrs. Lee (Beverly) Cunningham of Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. B. (Marjorie) Barnett of Council Bluffs and Robert Truscott of Milwaukee. Preceding him in death were a daughter, LaVon, on April 26, 1954, his parents, a brother and sister and his first wife.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in an Emmetsburg cemetery.

Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from this evening until 8:30 Thursday morning when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state from 9 until time of the service. The casket will not be opened following the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 30, 1957)
