George Blow Dies at 83
George Washington Blow, 83, one of Armstrong’s oldest residents, died at 10 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. He had been seriously ill since Saturday, and was admitted to the hospital Monday.He was born April 20, 1876, in Marshall County, near Marshalltown, the son of Joseph and Sarah Blow. When he was six years old, the family moved to Beaman, where he received his education.
He was married to Agness Burgess Feb. 9, 1907 at Eldora. They farmed near Beaman for four years and then moved to a farm near Watertown, S.D., where they lived until 1916. At that time they moved to Emmet County and farmed east of Armstrong for 11 years, near Dolliver, for seven years, and move to Armstrong in 1934. Blow was employed on farms in the Armstrong area after moving to town.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Lee Hunt of Polo, Ill.; Mrs. Carl Anderson of Armstrong; Mrs. Lawrence Stripling of Estherville; one son, Eugene Blow of Tri-Mont, Minn.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two grandchildren, six sisters and three brothers.

Blow Rites Saturday
Funeral services for George Blow, 83, of Armstrong will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. R.D. Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home from this evening until time of services.Mr. Blow died yesterday morning at Holy Family Hospital. A month ago he suffered a stroke and was a hospital patient. It was the first time he had ever been seriously ill and didn’t want to stay at the hospital.
When he was left alone, he dressed and walked out of the hospital and was later brought home. He became ill again last Friday and this time told his wife that he wanted to go back to the hospital.
He and Mrs. Blow celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this year. They moved to Emmet county from Watertown, S.D. in 1916. They farmed until 1934, when they moved to Armstrong.
Mr. Blow worked for potato growers for many years. He helped Cecil and Orville Thoreson of Swea City and of recent years worked for Leslie Hirt of Armstrong. He helped with potato harvest last fall when he was 82.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Lee Hunt of Polo, Ill., Mrs. Lawrence Stripling of Estherville, Mrs. Carl Anderson of Armstrong; one son, Eugene of Trimont, Minn.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
