Norman Benton Funeral Rites Held Yesterday
Armstrong, Dec. 7 (Special to the Daily News) – Funeral services for Norman Benton, 74, pioneer resident of Armstrong who died Friday at the hospital in Cherokee, were held yesterday at 2 pm. in the church at Dolliver, the Rev. Carver, officiating. Burial was in the Armstrong cemetery.Mr. Benton had been ill at the home of his son since he suffered a paralytic stroke about six years ago. He had been confined to his bed for the past two years. He was taken to the Cherokee hospital for treatment several weeks ago.
Mr. Benton is survived by his sister, Mrs. Walter Cummins of Armstrong, four sons, Claud of Dolliver, Raymond of Armstrong, Walter of Northfield, and Harvey, residence unknown, and one brother, Charles, whose residence is also unknown.
Those attending the funeral at Dolliver were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cummins, Vivian and Rufus Cummins and Raymond Benton, all of Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. James Lennox of Dolliver and Mrs. Howard Benton of Tyler, Minn. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 7, 1931)
Norman Benton, father of Raymond Benton, of Armstrong, passed away at the Cherokee hospital last week [December 4, 1931] after a lingering illness of several years. He made his home with his son, Claude Benton, of Dolliver, until last fall when it became necessary for him to be taken to a hospital to be cared for. Funeral services were held at the Dolliver church Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Armstrong Grove cemetery beside his wife [Edna Klein] who passed to the great beyond many years ago. The funeral of Mr. Benton, aged father of Claude Benton, was held at the Community Church here Sunday afternoon. Mr. Benton has been in failing health for a number of years and his death was not unexpected. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 9, 1931)
