Armstrong – Mrs. Carrie [Belle] Benton, 84, Fenton and formerly of Armstrong, died Saturday [January 6, 1979] at Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Services for Mrs. Benton will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

The Mahaney Funeral Home, Fonda, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the church after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Griese, she was born March 8, 1894, in Grundy County. She received her education in Emmet County schools and was married to Claude Benton on April 8, 1922, at Fairmont, Minn. The couple farmed in the Armstrong area until moving into Armstrong in 1950. She moved to Fonda in 1977.

Mrs. Benton was a member of the Rebeca Lodge.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Olaf (Annabel) McManus, Fonda, and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Simon, Dolliver; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 8, 1979)
