Former Armstrong Man Buried There
J.S. Beers of Paullina, formerly of Armstrong died at his home at 2:15 a.m. Thursday [July 11, 1940]. He had been in poor health for a year and death followed a stroke suffered last Saturday.Mr. Beers lived in Armstrong in 1911 from Primghar purchasing the telephone exchange from Lincoln Noble. He built a new building for the exchange and operated it until May 1927 when he sold it to Thos. Arvig.
Mrs. Beers died in 1920, a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Butterfield passed away last year. There is a son Chas. Beers of West Virginia and a daughter, Miss Fern Beers surviving. Fern moved o Paullina with her father four years ago.

Burial services were held Saturday afternoon for J.S. Beers at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Mr. Beers died at his home in Paullina, Iowa, Thursday morning, July 11, following a stroke. He was a resident of Armstrong until 1936 when he moved to Paullina. Mr. Beers is survived by a son, Charles Beers of West Virginia and a daughter, Miss Fern Beers of Paullina. Corwith – Mr. and Mrs. Fay Scace and Mrs. Mattie Beers attended funeral services at Paulina Saturday for James Beers, a brother-in-law of the latter, who died at his home there Thursday following a stroke. (Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, IA, July 15, 1940)
