Last Rites Held for August Beck April 30
Armstrong – August Beck was born Aug. 6, 1902 at Humboldt, the son of James and Anna Beck, and died April 27 at Holy Family hospital, Estherville. At the age of eight months his family moved to a farm in Kossuth county located southeast of Armstrong where he grew to manhood. He attended the rural school in that area.

On Jan. 27, 1926, he was united in marriage to Vivian McNally Bunt of Armstrong and to this union one son, Gerold Dean was born who died at birth. An infant boy, Donald Eugene was adopted by the couple in 1936.

Mr. and Mrs. Beck farmed in the Armstrong community until the spring of 1941 when they moved to their farm one mile south of Swea City. Mrs. Beck died in October, 1953.

On Sept. 19, 1959, he was married to Bernadine Lydia Robertson at Algona.

Surviving his death are his widow; son, Donald; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Johanna) Metz of Ringsted and Mrs. Andrew (Elsie) Burt of Armstrong; and four brothers, George of Armstrong, Einer of Estherville, Shirley of Burlington and William of Thor.

His parents and two brothers, Chris and Harry also preceded him in death besides his first wife and infant son.

Funeral services were conducted April 30 at First Methodist church in Swea City with Rev. W.A. Parmer officiating. Interment was made in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Beck of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. William Beck, Larry and Ann of Thor, Mr. and Mrs. Vernold Johnson of Center City, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Christiansen, Mr. and Mrs. George Beck and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jensen of Humboldt.
