E.K. Ayers Dies While Fishing
Suffers Heart Attack at 9 a.m.
E.K. Ayers, 73, retired farmer living at Dolliver, died of a heart attack about 9 a.m. today while on a fishing jaunt at Tuttle lake. He had not been ill, although he had suffered one heart attack about a year ago.

Ayers had gone fishing with John Weber of Dolliver and Weber’s two grandsons. The group had just finished seining for minnows and came out onto the bank when Ayers fell forward onto the ground. An ambulance was summoned and he was removed to Armstrong.

The deceased had lived in the Dolliver community for a number of years, previously having farmed east of Estherville. He came to Emmet county from Schaller in 1924.

Ayers was born Oct. 7, 1875 in Wisconsin [Story County, IA] and early in life, married Nellie King of Schaller. Mrs. Ayers died in 1934.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth at Estherville, Otis at Fairmont and Raymond in Central Minnesota, and three daughters, Gladys at home, Mrs. George Holl of Dolliver, and Mrs. Lester Rosenberg of Dunnell.

Services have not yet been arranged. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 14, 1949)

Ayers Services Friday
Services for E.K. Ayers of Dolliver will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Dolliver Methodist church, Rev. Donald Haarup officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong cemetery. Ayers succumbed to a heart attack yesterday while fishing at Tuttle lake. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1949)

Ele Kenneth Ayers was born Oct 7, 1875, in Story county, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Ayers, and died 9 a.m. Tuesday on heart attack while fishing at Tuttle lake. He had been suffering from a heart ailment for more than a year.

Ayers spent most of his childhood in Story county. Feb. 12, 1907, he married Nellie King of Schaller and the couple lived near there until 1921 when they moved to a farm near Estherville. He spent the rest of his life on farms in Emmet county, living at various times near Estherville, Maple Hill and Dolliver, where he made his residence at the time of death.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth of Estherville, Otis of Fairmont and Raymond of Seva, Minn.; three daughters, Gladys at home, Mrs. George Holl of Dolliver and Mrs. Lester Rosenberg of Dunnell; 13 grandchildren, Mrs. George Handeland; Hazel, Ellis and Dale Holl of Dolliver; James and Robert Ayers of Estherville; Shirley and Lois Ayers of Fairmont; Margery and Roger Rosenberg of Dunnell, and Wayne, Arthur and Phyllis Ayers of Seva, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1934, an infant daughter, a granddaughter, his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Services were held 2 p.m. Friday in Dolliver Methodist church with Rev. Donald Haarup officiating. Burial was at Armstrong cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 16, 1949)
