Armstrong – Services for Hazel Askeland, 92, Armstrong will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Rothfusz officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. She died Tuesday, March 23, 1993 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Armstrong from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

She was born May 25, 1900 at Armstrong [per Iowa births/christening Index, Iowa Lake Township], the daughter of John and Martha (Lubke) Vigdal and attended country school near Armstrong and later went to Mankato Business College. On Sept. 24, 1921 she married Herman Askeland, Sr. at Armstrong. The couple farmed and moved into town in 1956. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church; taught Sunday School and held several offices in the ALCW. She was also a member of the Federated Wednesday Study Club and several birthday clubs.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Marcella) Atkinson; son, Herman Askeland, Jr. both of Armstrong; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson; her parents; five brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1993)
