Herman Askeland
Armstrong – Herman Askeland Sr., 79, Armstrong, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 1977 at his home.

Services for Mr. Askeland will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating. Interment will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, until noon Friday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Mr. Askeland was born March 5, 1898, at Badger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hadley Askeland. He received his education in rural Swea City schools and was married to Hazel Vigdal Sept. 24, 1921, at Armstrong.

He farmed in the Armstrong and Swea City area most of his life. He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Mr. Askeland is survived by his wife, Hazel, Armstrong; one son, Herman Askeland Jr., Armstrong; one daughter, Mrs. Marcella Wagner, Armstrong; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Askeland, Griswold; and one sister, Mrs. Sadie Johnson, Armstrong.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 26, 1977)
